MINAKER, George Clement
It is with sadness that family announces the passing of George on April 30, 2012 at the age of 74. George was born in Morris, Manitoba and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He spent several years as a public official serving as an Alderman, City Councilor, Member of Legislative Assembly (Minister of Community Services and Corrections) and Member of Parliament. He was also appointed as a member with The National Transportation Agency. George made his home in Ottawa/ Manotick with his wife Joan. George loved tending to his beautiful yard and home. He also enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for his family and friends. George was predeceased by his parents George and Elizabeth Minaker, brothers Ronald, William, Richard and Robert and sisters Gail and Helen. He is survived by his wife Joan, children Cathy (Wally), Donald, Scott (Sharon), step children Lesley (Kevin), Keith (Danielle), grandchildren Sarah (Justin), Gregory, Lynsey, Jamie, Liam, Maeve, Coen, Aiden, Zachary, Julian and great granddaughter Ava. Family and Friends are invited to celebrate George's life at a memorial service to be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:00am. Visitation will take place prior to the service at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to the Canadian Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research 1-888-939-3333.
