DU PLESSIS (née Sutherland),
Helen Gillian
June 11, 1936 - November 11, 2012
It is with sadness that we announce Helen's peaceful passing at the age of 76. Beloved wife of Raymond, loving mother of Catherine (Marc), Valerie (Roland), and Philip and proud grandmother of Kate and Samuel. She will be fondly remembered by her sister Pamela (Ross), brother James (Karen), her sister-in- law Gloria (late Frank), brother-in-law Gerald, her many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, her aunt Helen and cousins Jean, Elizabeth, Donald (Suedean), Anne (Eldon), Sheila (Jim), and Camilla (late John). She will be sadly missed by her dear friend Rosalyn Sallenave (Jean-Paul). Helen was born a Canadian citizen in Murree in the Punjab Province, then British India. Granddaughter of the Honourable Senator Donald Sutherland, daughter of Lt.-Col. James Burleigh Sutherland, RE, OBE, DSO, and Marjorie (née Sprague), stepdaughter of Col. Alastair Shearer, OBE. Helen grew up in India, Egypt and England. She moved to Ingersoll, Ontario, in 1953, where she graduated from nearby Alma College. She later followed her father to Ottawa where she married Raymond in 1959. Helen loved and cherished her family and friends and enjoyed tennis, theatre, and long walks. She was a kind, generous and courageous person, who was much loved and always put others first. Our thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus, and the Elizabeth Bruyère Hospital for their compassion and care during Helen's brave struggle with cancer. Family and friends may pay their respects at the
