RIMMER, Thomas
Computing Devices retiree
May 6, 1930 - November 16, 2012
With sadness we announce the passing of Tom Rimmer at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) after a life well lived. Beloved husband and best friend of over 61 years of Nancy. Proud father and grandfather of Malcolm (Donna Dias) and their daughter Leigh of Charlotte, North Carolina and Douglas (Susan Baird) and their children Anne and James of Ottawa. Dear brother of Douglas and Eric, both of England. Will be missed by his cousins and their families in England. Tom was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, the eldest son of Thomas Rimmer and Lillian Jennings. At the age of 18 Tom joined the Royal Navy, serving for twelve years and leaving with the rank of Sub Lieutenant. His numerous tours took him to Asia and Africa, sparking a love of travel. While serving he married Nancy Blair in 1951. In 1960, Tom joined ICT, an early high- technology firm in Stevenage England. The opportunity to immigrate to Canada in 1967 to work with Computing Devices in Bells Corners provided an exciting adventure for the family and they happily settled in the new development of Kanata. Tom became an active member of their community and was recognized in 1985 for his contribution to the City of Kanata. In 1995 with his retirement, Tom and Nancy continued their love of travel. Tom became an avid genealogist with the arrival of his three grandchildren . A lover of puzzles of all kinds, ideas, and reading, Tom held an active interest in the world around him, from science to politics to family history. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Road), Nepean on Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 from 5 pm to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa would be appreciated by the family.
