Marcel BEAUDRY Obituary
1933 - 2012
It is with profound sadness, that the family of Mr. Marcel Beaudry announces his passing on Saturday, November 24th, 2012. Marcel was a husband to the late Mona Rivest and son of the late Léon Beaudry and of the late Rosia Farley. He leaves behind his loving children: Jean-Luc (Marlene), Anne, Charles and François (Rachel); his 10 cherished grandchildren; and his companion Suzanne Gustafsson. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Visitation will be held at the COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L'OUTAOUAIS, 95, blvd. Cité- des-Jeunes in Gatineau (Hull sector) on Thursday November 29th and Friday, November 30th from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Service will be held at St-Joseph de Hull Cathedral, 275 St-Joseph Blvd in Gatineau (Hull sector) on Saturday, December 1st 2012 at 11 a.m. The family will receive condolences after the service.
In memory of Marcel, donations to the CSSS Gatineau (pneumology clinic project) would be greatly appreciated.

Marcel was a great promoter of events in Medjugorje.Many people loved and admired him outside of Canada,especially in Croatia. Croatian community in Ottawa will dearly remember our friend for a long time!

N'ayant malheureusement pas eu le privilège de servir à la CCN avec Monsieur Beaudry, mon terme de commissaire lui ayant succédé, je n'ai entendu que des louanges à son sujet par les membres du personnel et de ses collègues, non seulement à cause de ses qualités de leader et de visionnaire pour la région de la Capitale Nationale, mais aussi, et surtout, à cause de son humanité et de sa générosité de coeur envers tous les membres de son équipe.
En son départ, notre région a perdu un grand ambassadeur. Vous allez bien nous manquer.

I had the pleasure and experience of many discussions with Marcel during my time as CAO of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton on matters of mutual interest in the National Capital. A true professional and seasoned negotiator, he always had the best interest of the taxpayers foremost in his mind. We have lost a real gentleman. My condolences to his family.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Marcel Beaudry. I was amongst the privileged to have worked with such an intelligent, compassionate and generous man during his entire tenure at the NCC. I will truly miss him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

To Marcel's family,
It was with real sadness that I read about the death of your dear father and grandfather.
Our terms as Mayors, of Hull and Ottawa, overlapped and then I was fortunate to work with him when he was the NCC CEO and Chair and I remained Mayor of Ottawa.
In 1992 when Canada was facing unity problems, Marcel immediately recognized that the 2 of us, as Mayors of the National Capital Region, had to "do something".
We launched a program based on something that all Canadians had in common, the Canadian flag. "Raise the Flag" was born and Marcel was one of the signatories to an invitation to mayors from across Canada to come to Ottawa, to raise the flag and then to return home to repeat the ceremony in their home towns....it may seem like a small gesture now in the electronic age but it was a very powerful symbol 20 years ago.
My memories of meeting with him at the NCC clearly demonstrated that he saw the big picture of what this National Capital could be...a source of pride for all Canadians. He has been called a visionary and that's how he came across to me.
May his memory be a blessing to his family, friends and Canada.

It was with shock and sadness that I learned of Marcel's passing. He was a courageous and enlightened leader, a man of immense intelligence who worked tirelessly for the good of the Capital and for all Canadians. It is hard to imagine a world without the challenges he set, his kindness and his irrepressible wit and good humour. We join with so many others who knew Marcel in offering our deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a long and productive life.
We knew Marcel from having worked at the NCC, where he always had a kind word and a smile when we crossed paths. Without doubt, he made an impact on everyone he met during his lifetime.

My deepest sympathy to the Beaudry family and to Suzanne. I had the privilige of working with Marcel at the NCC for several years. Under his leadership the staff of the NCC did their best for Canadians. Marcel created a hardworking, respectful and committed working environment. In addition to the many career highlights that have already been cited I would add his support to the Literacy Programme launched at the NCC many years ago. Marcel never forgot the challenges that face many Canadians, he encouraged everyone and had time for all. He was open and supportive, thus allowing many of us to contribute alongside him for the greater good of Ottawa and Canada.

I had the privilege of working for six years as a board member at the NCC with Marcel as the leader.
Un grand leader et visionnaire national avec un sens d`humour incroyable, un joyeux pianiste, toujours un grand respect pour tout son entourage.
Even with his hands tied at times, Marcel still accomplished.

His loss was so sudden. I was privileged to have worked with Marcel as a VP at the NCC for many years. He was always focussed on getting the job done and getting the best value for the Canadian taxpayer. He also tried to make the work fun for all of us. He will be missed.

Marcel was a visionary. One of those rare people who see obstacles as mere challenges to be overcome. He loved Canada's Capital, and helped to make it one of the greatest world capitals. As minister for this region for 10 years, I admired, respected and trusted him. Rest in peace, old friend!
