Daughter of William Ernest Brown and Alice Maud (Smith) Brown. Predeceased by her brothers Ernest, Wilbur, Elmer, Ronald, Edwin and Stanley and by her sisters Mildred and Vera. She is survived by her brother Melvin and her sisters Florence Jeffrey and Lois Baskin. After graduating from the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing, Mabel survived poliomyelitis at age 22 and became permanently wheelchair dependent. She obtained her Nursing degree and Library Science degree at the University of Toronto, taught nursing at the Toronto East General and Nursing Librarian at The Toronto Western Hospital. She returned to Ottawa and was employed as Nursing Librarian and the Director of the Health Sciences Library until retirement. She loved her work and lived a full and joyful life. It was on Mabel's heart to add the following words: "When you read this, and by God's grace, I shall be more alive than I have ever been. Jesus said, 'whoever believes in Me (serves me, obeys my words and commandments) shall never die'. It has been my joy to base my life on the foundation of the Word of God. My life has been full and blessed even while being wheelchair dependent for over 50 years." Family will receive friends at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre on Friday, December 28, 2012, (2500 Baseline Road) from 9:00 a.m. until the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by a light lunch and Memorial Service at Brunstad Christian Church, (1981 Century Road) at 12:00 noon.
