WOOD, Dalia, The Honourable
(nee Solinas)
Peacefully, in Ottawa, after a long illness, at Longfields Manor on January 6, 2013 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Norman. Loving mother of the late Lynn Pringi Hopkins (Ross Hopkins) and Edward (Tedd) (Joyce Moore). Granny of Christina Pringi, Kevin Pringi, Elizabeth Pringi (Stefan Lew), Terence Moore (Erika Beresford-Kroeger) and Kate Wood. Great-Granny to Erik Lew. Sister and best-friend of the late Vera Solinas Turley (John Turley) and sister-in-law of Lewis Wood (Betty Wood) and Dorothy Wood-Stanton (Patrick Stanton). She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Senator Wood was born in Montreal in 1924 and was summoned to the Senate of Canada in 1979 after having a successful business career and many years in the Liberal Party, including President of the Liberal Party of Canada (Quebec). She served her country with passion and conviction until her retirement in 1999. Family and friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road), Ottawa on Wednesday, January 9 from 7 - 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Dalia's family wishes to send a special thank you to the Gardenview staff and everyone at Longfields Manor for all the years of exemplary care.

My best memory of "Granny" as I knew her, was as a feisty interesting character who fell in love with my young step-son Frank and became all flirty with him. A remarkable pioneer for women in Canada!

My deepest sympathy Tedd, Joyce and family as I know you'll miss her a lot but know that she's no longer in any pain. You did your best by her and will always remember her pink antique store too. Hugs

Deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. I will always remember her hospitality upon my arrival in Ottawa more than 25 years ago. I will remember her strong family values, her love of Ottawa Valley antiques hunting, the Farm, and her ability to balance it all with a very demanding professional Senate seat.

Tedd and family,
Deepest sympathy to you. I know how much Dalia doted on you as her son - you have no regrets. She was a remarkable lady and I liked her spirit.

I had the honour and the pleasure of working for Senator Wood during her last year at the Senate.

I quickly learned that her priorities were her family and the interests of the English speaking community in Quebec. She was dedicated, fiercely loyal, and no nonsense in her approach to finding solutions to problems. She was also a very generous woman who opened her heart and her home and her heart to those she considered friends.

I am blessed to have known her and will miss her.

I offer my deepest condolences to her family and to her wide network of friends.

We would like to express our Deepest Sympathy to your Family. Senator Wood was a power of example, motivated, dedicated and a positive influence to all. We enjoyed the experience of campaigning, the Mount Royal Committee meetings, the Conventions and the Sugaring Off parties. Senator Wood is missed, fond memories of her will live on. Sincerely, Stephen, Lorraine & Jenny Huza, Mrs. Helen Huza and Jim Huza

Senator Wood was truly a remarkable woman - the kind that inspires great confidence, creates opportunity, as well as the desire to have the same lasting impression and positive influence on the lives of others. I will never forget what she did for me. My condolences to Ted and his family and to Jocelyn (who worked for the Senator for years) as well as the many others that will also be deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful woman. How lucky I am to have known Dalia Wood.

I have fond memories of your mother, first as my "big cousin" who doted on me when I was a tiny tot at the Solinas clan's famous Sunday dinners, and later as a strong political voice for the women of Quebec and Canada. At the Yvette rally in Montreal and in her dedicated work in the Senate she made us all very proud. May your own great memories sustain you in your grief. Sincere condolences to all the family.
