Deborah Ruth Carmody 1956 2013 (Née Sykes)

Deborah passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on 30 January, 2013 after a short battle with ovarian cancer. Beloved wife of Tom Carmody, adoring mother of Matthew Brazeau (Nancy Kettering), Madeleine Brazeau and grandmother-in-waiting for a grandson soon to be born to Matthew and Nancy. Her grandson would have known no better love than Deborah's and now she will always watch over him.

Predeceased by her parents, John Sykes and Elsie Plouffe, Deborah was the granddaughter of former City Alderman Moïse Plouffe.

Born in Ottawa, Deborah retired from the Senate of Canada three years ago after a successful career in the political realm. Former editor of Diplomat and Canada International magazine and excellent restaurant reviewer, Deborah excelled in everything she did - languages (she was multi-lingual), legendary cook, musician, artist, and editor extraordinaire.

A well-honed sense of humour, any event Deborah hosted or attended would always result in howls of laughter - just ask any of her friends at Curves Gym in Bells Corners or the 'Women of Wednesday'. She will be missed by all who knew her.

The family cannot thank enough the excellent and caring staff of floor A3 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their dedication and compassion in making her comfortable. In accordance with her wishes, Deborah will be cremated and a service in celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced.
