Peacefully, surrounded by her children, Elizabeth Meredith Mendel (née Ellis) in Ottawa on February 22, 2013, in her 86th year, after a brief illness. Beloved wife of Gerald Mendel, and mother of David (Donna McEwen), Anne (Alan Sainsbury), and Barbara (Bob Paquin) Mendel. Sister of David Ellis (Jeanne-Dot). Predeceased by her parents Harold and Doris Ellis, and brothers William and John Ellis. Devoted and loved grandmother of Rebecca and Andrew Sainsbury, Matthew and Jonathan Mendel, and Nicholas and Antonia Paquin. Fondly remembered by lifelong friends, especially Helen Rogers and Anne Hardy. Elizabeth was a kind and loyal daughter, wife, mother, aunt and friend, who loved people, laughter and life itself. She was ever optimistic and always encouraged positivity in others. Quoting the Bard, she often remarked, "All's well that ends well," and it was for her, in life and death. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Czarnowski and colleagues at the Bruyère Family Medicine Centre for many years of health care, and Bruyère Continuing Care for their expert attention during Elizabeth's last days. Donations in her memory, if desired, may be made to a cause that reflects Elizabeth's sense of compassion and generosity.
