Published by Ottawa Citizen from Apr. 27 to Apr. 28, 2016.
SYLVESTER, Rhoda
May 17, 1925 – April 25, 2016
Rhoda Sylvester (née Biesenthal) was born on a farm in Locksley (Alice Township). At seventeen she left school and came to Ottawa to work as a domestic. After a short time she found work at the Civic Hospital, eventually rising to a position in charge of nurses payroll. In 1945 she married Carl George Sylvester, and spent 57 years with him until his death. A devout church woman, she was a founding member of Our Saviour Lutheran congregation in Ottawa, and served as archivist for many years. Her last years were made comfortable by staff at Starwood Extendicare, and in particular by her personal care worker Mary Bent. Friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Byron) on Friday, April 29 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Lutheran Church Canada, 3074 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

I'll always cherish the time that I spend with Rhoda and Carl when growing up - they were the most lovely people to have as family, and I'll forever have great memories of the time that we shared. Will miss you dearly Aunt Rhoda...

Carl and Rhoda were a shining light in my growing up years. Carl has been missed now for many years as will Rhoda now.
