I knew Merv from my days at John Abbott when he was doing college radio with Lorne Glazer. He was always such a nice guy. I remember hearing him do the Trivia show on CJAD and calling in a few times, but I don't listen to radio like I used to. I'm sorry I didn't find out sooner. He went much too young.

Very strange - I was walking in my garden and suddenly thought of Shannon, whom I haven't seen since he was about two - before the twins were born. I lived in Montreal during the 1970s (Anne Steele then) and knew Heather and Merv, but we lost touch years ago. My oldest son Oliver was about six weeks older than Shannon - 40 in Feb. I don't believe in spooky stuff, but Googled his name and was so very sorry to find him here. Please accept my deepest condolences. I'm on Facebook if you want to get in touch - I don't really want to put my email address on here. Love to you all. Anne x

I hope Swervin Merv is making them laugh in Heaven. Cannot believe that he has been gone for over a year now. I hope his son and family have found some peace and find comfort with each other and the memories that they share. I worked at Wendy's with him, he was so funny and kind, a good guy to have on your side. RIP buddy xox

I met Merv a few years ago when we were in the same comedy-writing class. Great guy. I remember him as being very sweet and funny. So sorry to hear of his death. May he rest in peace.

Merv was a good guy who lit up when he spoke about his son. He referred to "McGoogans" enough that you had to think for a second to remember his real name. His love for radio was admirable and appreciated, and his quick, dry wit left us all laughing. Thank you Merv. xo
To Brayden, his parents, sisters, family and friends, may the good memories help when you need them.

Merv, will always be the man of my life, he will always be the one that got away from me. You were the one that taught me how to live my life without anyone to pressure me, Taught me that it doesn't matter what people think of me. I will always think of you when someone gets your favourite food (McDoubles with tomato, lettuce and mac sauce) I will remember how affectionate your sweet little pecks were and your little love taps you considered as a hug. I will remember our adventures in Wal-Mart and Costco. I even had that security guard trained to tell me where you were in Wal-Mart. I will always have you in my heart and my soul. Merv, my love, till we meet again... I hope that every comedian up there is treating you nicely, and is making you laugh, with that little chuckle you had. Keep on smiling baby!

Merv and Heather:
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Shannon. The tributes to him in this guest book speak to the impact he has had on friends and family alike. We can all only hope to leave such a lasting and positive impact on those who we touch in our lives. I hope your grief is tempered by this outpouring of admiration.

I didn't know Merv that well, but as one of his defenceman at Saturday night pick-up hockey over the last couple of years, I had the privilege of personally being responsible for at least half of the goals scored against him. While he might not miss my horrible defensive play, I will truly miss his good humour at Hockey Night in Kanata.

To Merv's family and close friends: On behalf of the Saturday Night mixed hockey group, we are very sadden by the news of Merv's passing. Though he was new to the group last season, he fit in so well like he was there for years. Thank you for letting us get to know such a great person.

A great guy who left us way too soon. Merv was a great guy to hang around with and talk about comedy during those late Friday nights at the CJAD studios. He was one of the unsung heroes of the Montreal radio scene over the past 15 years. You are certainly going to be missed, Merv.

One week ago we said goodbye to one of the greatest people I've ever met. Merv was apart of the family and will be missed forever. 'Uncle' Merv brought so much love and laughter to our home and hearts. Any memory I can think he was there whether it was walking in our door just as dinner was being placed on the table, birthdays, taking hours helping Storm out together toys on Xmas eve, taking crazy adventures to museums or events going on around the city during holidays where we would have to stand in line and find our way through crowds of people. His love for hockey, cars, girls, music, Wal-Mart, McDonald and late night walks always mad for great stories. Our home will never feel complete now that he's gone. His room in our basement or spot on the couch, the lack of fake diet drinks in the fridge. We love you forever Uncle Merv. I hope you continue to filling people hearts with laughter until we meet again.

I am totally shocked to hear the news about the passing of my friend as well as my former work colleague Merv Williams. I worked with him many years at CJAD, Mix (now Virgin) 96 & CHOM. He had an extraordinary sense of humour & shared many laughs. Merv was also extremely talented and I remembered he would work so many hours at a time. He loved his work at the radio stations and he would always go to bat for the people who knew him and worked with him.
Merv is now on stage up above looking at us from heaven and telling us stories that will make us smile and laugh. You will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family, friends, & loved ones. My heart & thoughts shall be with all of you during this very difficult and painful time. Rest In Peace my good friend!

My sympathies to his family. We used to work together. Had many laughs and shared some good times. I used to listen to him on the radio. Facebook was a good way to keep in touch since he moved away. When I read the news I was stunned. So sad, he had so many more jokes to tell. R.I.P

Dear Heather and Merv:
How sad to learn of the loss of your dear son Shannon. It is obvious from reading about him that he was a talented, funny and well loved man. Life seems so unfair at times like this but, hopefully, the impact he made while he was here will comfort you in his absence. Our deepest sympathy to the Williams and Cunningham families.

My sincere condolences to Merv's family. I've known Merv since our days at Cecil Newman and then through high school. We had reconnected a few years ago when he moved to Ottawa. Always quick with a joke, what I'll remember most about him is his wicked sense of humour and how kind he was. He will be missed and is gone way too soon.
