Colin H. Broddle

Colin H. Broddle, 88, of Midland, died at Colonial Villa on July 1, 2013. He was born in Laughton en le Morthen, Yorkshire, England on Dec. 29, 1924, to the late Henry and Lillian (Staley) Broddle. On June 29, 1974, he married Jeanne Griffin.

Colin served in the British Merchant Navy during World War II. Following the war, he was a Police Officer/Bobby in England before moving to the U.S. in 1949. Most of his career was spent as a financial advisor.

Colin was very active at St. John's Episcopal Church. He also was active in the Midland Toastmasters Club, Sunrise Optimist Club (a founder), Midland Foundation, Midland Community Affairs Council, Junior Achievement, Midland Emergency Food Pantry (a founder), the Boy Scouts and Washington Woods. Colin was known for his love for his family and for the good works he did for his Midland community.

Colin is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; daughter, Marilyn (Tom) Borowski of Troy; sons, John (Lisa) Broddle of Merritt Island, Fla., Russell Broddle of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Jeffrey (Sharon Russell) Broddle of Cadillac; stepchildren, Father Joseph Griffin of Midland, Peter (Sharon) Griffin of Plymouth, Thomas Griffin of Crofton, Md., and Maribeth (Matthew) Galligan of Clarkston; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Griffin of Fairfax, Va.; brother, Michael Broddle of Reston, Va.; four half-brothers in United Kingdom; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Colin was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Eric; and his stepson, Mark Griffin.

Colin's family wishes to extend appreciation to all the wonderful people at Colonial Villa and the Americans Hospice Care.

A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, at 12 p.m., on Monday, July 8, 2013, with The Rev. Michael H. Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Midland Emergency Food Pantry or Americans Hospice Care.
