Lenn M. Sutterfield

Lenn M. Sutterfield, 73, of Sanford, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at his residence. The son of the late Homer and Lillie (Cunningham) Sutterfield was born in Manila, Ark., on Sept. 4, 1939. He served in the U.S. Army.

Lenn was employed with Painters Local 1803 where he served as the business agent and held many other positions. He was a past treasurer for Michigan State Painters Union. Lenn was a member of Sanford Eagles 3677, where he was past worthy president, and a member of the Moose.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy, whom he married on Oct. 2, 1970; sons, Richard Sutterfield of Sanford, Rodney (Tammy) Miller of Sanford, Mitchell (Jennifer Hausdorf) Miller of Poulsbo, Wash.; grandchildren, Matthew and Clinton Sutterfield, Eric (Jennifer Showalter), Andrea and Rachael Miller, Gary Raynak, Cory and Mitchell Miller, Alison and Michael Clark and Amanda Sims; eight great-grandchildren; brother, CL "Red" (Lorna) Sutterfield of Coopersville; brother and sisters-in-law, Al (Brenda) Vandenberg of Byron Center, Larry (Marsha) Gehl of Drummond Island, Michael (Connie) Gehl of Gold Canyon, Ariz. and Susan (David) Fleischmann of Curtis; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lenn was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Leon (Fleta Jo) Sutterfield; sister, Sandy Vandenberg; mother and father-in-law, Ralph (Thelma) Gehl; and brother-in-law, James Gehl.

A celebration of Lenn's life will take place at 1 p.m., Jan. 12, 2013, at Sanford Eagles Club. Memorials may be offered to Sanford Eagles General Fund, Lenn's home away from home or the ALS of Michigan, 24359 Northwestern Hwy., Suite 100 Southfield, MI 48075.
