Miriam Adelaide (Langley) Abbott, of Tallahassee, Fla., passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, following a major stroke.
She was born Dec. 14, 1912, in Chicago, Ill., the oldest of seven children. Miriam met and married G. Warren Abbott at Albion College in Albion, Mich. They were married Sept. 6, 1936, and celebrated 71 years together before his death in 2007. She and Warren raised five children in Midland from 1936-1969, then moved to Ft. Wayne, Ind., where they lived from 1969-2007.
Her kindness and caring for others was never- ending.
Survivors include her children, Kenneth Abbott of Clarkston, Thomas Abbott of Colorado Springs, Colo., John Abbott of Tallahassee, Fla., and Betty Jean Schweitzer of San Jose, Calif.; her sisters, Ruth Shuter, Pat Read, and Jean McNutt; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; one sister; and her oldest son, David Abbott.
In Fort Wayne, visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., with a short graveside service immediately following at Covington Memorial Gardens.
