Robert B. Chatterton

Robert B Chatterton, 86, of Midland, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 28, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 20, 1926, in Red Oak, Iowa, son of the late Chester B. and Bessie (Messersmith) Chatterton.

Robert was a graduate of Midland High School class of 1944 and upon graduating he enrolled in the U.S. Navy, having served in the Pacific Theatre. On June 14, 1947, he married the former Charlotte Fenske in Ottawa Lake.

Robert was employed as an electrical engineer for 39 years with The Dow Chemical Co., retiring in 1982. He served as Midland Township Supervisor for 27 years, as past president of Michigan Township Association and he was a member of the Michigan Assessor's Association Board, Central Dispatch Administrative Board, president of Midland County Township Officers Association, and had served on the Economic Development Corporation. Along with his involvement with township offices he also was very active in the Bullock Creek School District and coached Southtown Little League for many years.

Robert had been an avid gardener and found great joy spending time on his farm and with his family.

In addition to his wife, Charlotte, he is survived by his children, daughters, Carol Bejarano, Linda Chatterton, Ann Chatterton all of Midland, and Lori (Tim) Lickly of Clare; son, Alan B (Lori) Chatterton of Midland; grandchildren, Alicia (David) Greenough of Petoskey, Christina (Matt) Schoder of Sandusky Ohio, Andrew (Deedra) Bejarano of Huron, Ohio, Jennifer (Joel) Kennedy and Jessica Chatterton, all of Midland; great-grandchildren, Anthony Greenough, Dominic Greenough, Elizabeth Schoder, Abigail Schoder, Mathias Bejarano and Morgan Kennedy. He is also survived by his brother, Sterling (Carlyn) Chatterton of Gun Lake; sister-in-law, Joyce Blenkhorn; and brothers-in-law, Dale (Bonnie) Fenske and Tom (Marilyn) Fenske, all of Midland. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Chatterton.

Robert's family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Bullock Creek Sports Boosters or MidMichigan Home Care.
