Robert James Harmer

After years of battling complications from Strep Toxic Shock Syndrome, Robert James Harmer passed over and found peace at his home in Midland, May 12, 2014. Robert was born May 25, 1962.

Loving husband, soul mate and best friend to Bonnie McKay Harmer; devoted, proud and deeply caring dad to Lance (18) and Kaely (16). Our family was so close because Rob was our anchor, our strength and our moral guide. Rob will be missed by his parents, Bob and Connie Harmer (Fullarton, Ontario); siblings, Dan and Debbie; and grandmother Muriel Rumpel. He will also be profoundly missed by in-laws, Jack and Marj McKay (Sarnia, Ontario); and his brother-in-law, Scott McKay; and his wife, Theresa (Lakeport, Mich.).

Rob was an employee of Dow Corning from 1997 until his passing. Rob's creative and mechanical genius was remarkable. He had a passion for trouble-shooting and inventing solutions. He earned multiple patents while working at ESSO (Exxon) Sarnia and at DCC. But it is Rob's inner strength, intelligence, humility and kindness that will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Midland Country Club to coincide with what would have been Bonnie and Rob's 20th Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday, May 27, from 5-8 p.m. No flowers please. Donations to Lance and Kaely Harmer (which will be used exclusively as college funds) will be appreciated and can be sent to Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, Midland Mich., 48640.
