Roy James Kutchey

Roy James Kutchey, 70, of Texas, and former Midland resident, died Aug. 7, 2012 while traveling in Mississippi. He was born Sept. 8, 1941, son of the late Marvin and Florence (Nemecheck) Kutchey.

Roy honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 20, 1986 he married Betty Young. He owned and operated Roy Kutchey's Greenhouse for 31 years before retiring in 2002. Roy had a tremendous work ethic, which proudly showed in the quality of plants he grew. He was also appreciative of his customers throughout the years. He and Betty spent winters in Texas for several years before permanently residing there in 2005. Roy loved hunting, fishing and golfing. Through his hunting and fishing adventures, he traveled the world and enjoyed the places he visited. He and Betty had many great adventures!

He will be missed by his wife, Betty; children, Ron (Tara ) Kutchey, Peggy (Jim) Berns, and Pam Kutchey; stepchildren, Lisa (Dave) Matthew, Kelli (Rich) Piotrowski, and Cindy Berryhill; nine grandchildren, Taylor Dobson, Garrett Kutchey, Logan Berns, Zachary Perry, David Piotrowski, Tyler Piotrowski, Tanner Matthew, Lindsey Matthew, and Samantha Saunders; great grandchild, Andre Cruz; brother, Bob Kutchey; and sister Beverly Kutchey.

A memorial service celebrating Roy's life will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler St., with Rev. Gib Giblin officiating. Roy's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider their favorite charity.
