Dr. Thomas Gillespie

Dr. Thomas Gillespie, 88, of Midland, died at the Toni & Trish House on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Thomas was born on April 16, 1924, in Winnipeg, Canada, to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Gillespie.

On May 4, 1945, he married his sweetheart, Victoria Hrynchuck in Winnipeg. They have been happily married for 68 years.

Dr. Gillespie received his Ph.D and Dsc from Kings College, The University of London. Thomas served in the Canadian Navy.

The Gillespies moved to Midland in 1957. In 1962, Dr. Gillespie assumed leadership of the Fundamentals Research Section of the Plastics Production Department in Dow's Midland Division. He was a professor of physics at and co-founder of SVSU. He also loved gardening and was an avid golfer.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Victoria; son, Terry (Kathleen) Gillespie; grandchildren, Booker and Lisa (John Anderson); and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kelly.

A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church in Midland on Friday, April 5, 2013, at 11 a.m., with The Rev. Dr. Charles Keyworth officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
