William Monroe Posey

William Monroe Posey, 80, of Breckenridge, passed away at Hearts Content Adult Foster Care in Breckenridge on Saturday, June 15, 2013, with his family at his side. He was born June 6, 1933, in Vienna, W.Va., the only son of William and Essie (Hall) Posey, growing up with seven sisters and one stepsister. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1951 and lived in Midland for several years, working at The Dow Chemical Co.

Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge in Sanford. He served in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Texas from 1954, until his honorable discharge in 1956.

Uncle Bill, or Billy as he was affectionately named, adopted all his nieces and nephews as his own. He was a very generous man, always thinking of others. He enjoyed many walks through the cemetery studying stones, and often times would be found placing flowers on the grave of someone he knew saying, "I am visiting my friend." A fun loving man, who everyone enjoyed being around. Uncle Bill was always up for a practical joke.

Bill was a man of many talents, including music and photography. He started playing the piano and organ at the age of nine by ear, and later began music lessons taught by Jane Rotermand. He could play anything and even composed many pieces of music. Classical music was his favorite. Bill also enjoyed photographing many of Breckenridge's historical buildings, which are displayed at the village office. Bill also enjoyed recording everything including, his nieces, nephews and sisters.

Bill had a great love for the out-of-doors and enjoyed nature to the fullest. He also enjoyed taking trips with his family members and will be greatly missed by all of them.

Bill is survived his sisters, Ruby (Arland) Carter of Crystal, Mary (Bill) Horvat of Sanford, Martha Post of Breckenridge, Susie (Larry) Huntoon of Breckenridge; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia Stowits, Lula Prahin, Nancy Phillips; and a stepsister, Helen Wells.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Breckenridge United Methodist Church with Pastor Ed Kreh officiating. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel in Breckenridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breckenridge Library.
