Alan (Al) Walter Maidens, 58, of Midland, died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2012, at his home. He was born May 1, 1954, the son of Lloyd and Sarah Madge (Church) Maidens in Midland, where he was raised and educated. He worked at McCoy Heating & Cooling in Bay City and had worked in this trade for 35 years.

On Oct. 25, 1974, he married Kathy Dame in Midland. Al enjoyed playing pool for the Red Oak Lounge in Sanford and playing Euchre. For 38 years he played softball, most recently on the AGP team. Al also bowled at Northern Lanes (Lucky Strikes) for many years, was active in Relay for Life, enjoyed motorcycle rides and was an avid metal scrapper.

Al is survived by his wife, Kathy Maidens; daughters, Alleana Booth (Augie O'Dell), Allisha Ramos (Josh Gutzman) and Chaesa Howard, who will greatly miss their supportive husband and father. He is also survived by granddaughters, Marissa and Allyah Ramos, and Jaelynn Gutzman; grandsons, Tanner Booth and Holden Kinne; brothers, Doug (Dorothy) Skutt, Randy (Pat) Maidens and Jeff Maidens; sister, Brenda (Jim) Sohasky; mother-in-law, Margaret Dame; sister-in-law, JoAnn Dame McHenry; brother-in-law, Chuck (Sharon) Dame; special friends, Bud and Gail Skutt, Violet and Glen Dixon and Libby Varner; many nieces and nephews, family and friends; and especially his loving companion, Harley, the dog. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Joseph Dame.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St., with ministry provided by his brother, Douglas Skutt. Al's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Al's family appreciates the loving care and support provided by MidMichigan Home Care Hospice, Jen McHenry, the doctors and nurses at the Oncology Center, the American Cancer Society and Pardee Cancer Center. Those planning and expression of sympathy may wish to consider the family in memory of Al.
