Carol Bornsheuer Obituary

Carol D. Bornsheuer, 87, died peacefully Aug. 8, 2016 from cancer while in hospice care in Midland. Her daughter and son-in-law were by her bedside.

During Carol's lifetime, she experienced many changes and she embraced them all. Born Aug. 21, 1928, in Peoria, Ill., Carol grew up in Rome, Ill. and graduated from Chillicothe High School. She married Ray Kenneth Bornsheuer in 1949.

Carol was a loving mother and a very proud grand and great-grandmother. She worked as a legal secretary and industrial manufacturer's secretary, and was an award winning quilter. She and her quilting were honored and exhibited twice at the American Quilt Society competition in Paducah, Ky. Carol and Ray were home computer and video game lovers early on. She created her family's cookbook and an in-depth family history book. In her later years, Carol regularly published her blogs, "Pieces of the Past" and "Fun Old Hag" which were followed by people all over the world.

Survivors include her brother, Charles Daniel Droll (Dorothy) of Henderson, Nev.; daughter, Sherry (Barclay) Goff of Midland; and son, William Ray Bornsheuer (Ann) of Overland Park, Kan.; granddaughters, Norah Bowerman (Chad) of Erie, Colo., and Molly Lewis (Doug) and Hannah Pray (Ian) of Portland, Ore.; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; and sister, Joanne DeFoe.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of Carol's life will be held in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Midland Sept. 17, 2016 at 11 a.m.

The family greatly appreciated the care they all received from MidMichigan Hospice and suggests that memorials be directed to that organization through MidMichigan Home Care.
