Carole Basinger Bishop, 83, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013. She was 83 years old.

She was born in Lima, Ohio on June 21, 1930, to Walter and Nellie (Bradford) Basinger. She was a graduate of Ohio State University in 1953, with a bachelor's degree in home economics, where she was also a member of Chi Omega sorority. Carole also completed a master's degree in education at Central Michigan University. She married John Van Bramer Bishop on March 6, 1954. He passed away May 6, 2003.

Carole taught home economics at Meridian High School and Junior High School for over 25 years, retiring in 1992. She was a long time member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and was active in the community. She was a volunteer at the Midland Hospital gift shop and a regular volunteer at King's Daughters, especially during their annual Christmas Closet project.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Bradford Bishop and his wife, Elizabeth, of Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.; their two daughters, Caroline Walker Bishop and Martha MacKenzie Bishop; and a daughter, Diane Bishop Nobles and her husband, Ron, of Arlington Heights, Ill. and their two daughters, Katherine Bishop Nobles and Anne Bradford Nobles. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Earl Basinger

Carole was devoted to her children and grandchildren and loved to travel. She made several trips to London to visit her son and his family who lived there for several years. She also traveled to Argentina to visit a granddaughter studying there on a university abroad program. In addition, she regularly visited extended family in various parts of the country.

Funeral services for Carole will take place 1 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., with burial to follow in Midland City Cemetery. Carole's family will receive friends today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of service.
