David Jerry "Skip" Jackson, passed from his Earthly life on Nov. 22, 2013 in Zephyrhills, FL, where he shared his life with his loving wife of 40 years, Kathleen (Swetesich) Jackson. David was fondly known by his nickname "Skip" to close family, friends and business colleagues. David was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 3, 1931, and moved to Midland with his parents, Arthur Morrison Jackson and Harriett (Haddow) Jackson, in 1937, where they founded the Jackson Insurance Agency.

He was raised in Midland and attended Midland High School graduating in 1951. He received his Agent License in 1951, and attended Michigan State University from 1951-1953. As a veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army in the 77 AAA Niki Unit at Fort McArthur, Calif., from 1953-55. Following his military service, David returned to Midland and joined the Jackson Insurance Agency, which he later owned and managed from 1957-2006.

As a member of the Midland business community, he served as President of Midland Association of Insurance Agents from 1963-1969, Director of Midland Chamber of Commerce from 1969-1971, Vice President of the Civitan Club, Board Member of the Midland Center for the Arts, and was a member of the American Legion.

David was a renowned hobbyist who enjoyed collecting Lionel electric trains and designing and building railroad layouts for over 30 years. In addition to his love of the railroad, he also loved fast cars and was an avid NASCAR race fan and collector of NASCAR cars since 1980.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Morrison Jackson and Harriett (Haddow) Jackson; and daughter Laura Kozlow Jackson. He is survived by his wife Kathleen; and his five children and their spouses: David (Jamie) Jackson of Vero Beach Fla., Susan (Manuel) Cabianca of Vero Beach, Fla., Ann (Todd) Bennett of Midland, Steven (Katrina) Jackson of Bay City, and Todd (Cora) Jackson of Peck. David is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Erika Jackson, Samantha Lomasney, Samuel Jackson, James Jackson, Patrick Jackson, Todd Jackson Jr., Alyssa Jackson, Jessica Chrest-Holler, Sara Chrest, Andrew Chrest, Susan Bennett; and one great-granddaughter, Leigh Ann Lomasney.

A celebration of David's life and memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. David's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 18th from 4-7 p.m., and on Thursday, from 1 p.m. until time of the service.
