Jerry Holubik, 88, of Freeland, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 8, 2013, at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper in Saginaw, after a brief illness. Jerry was born April 27, 1924, in Freeland, to the late Martin and Genevieve (Riha) Holubik and lived in this area all of his life.
Jerry was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Freeland, Knight of Columbus Father Robertson Council #7582 in Freeland, member of CSA Lodge 214, Saginaw in which he held many offices. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 726th Amph Trac BN in the Pacific Theater and had received several citations. Jerry was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Tigers, Lions and the Loons. He also was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting for rabbits and pheasants and was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed feeding them as well.
On April 17, 1948, Jerry married Louise E. Neuenfeldt, she survives him. Also surviving are seven children, Deborah Adkins of Kalamazoo, Carolyn Duranso of St. Charles, Marcia Holubik of Saginaw, Cynthia (Ed) Kushion of Freeland, Jeri-Lee Holubik of Clinton Twp., Steven (Sandi) Holubik of Indianapolis, Ind. and Michelle Holubik of Freeland. Nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Victor Holubik of Freeland and John (Leona) Holubik Sr. Kingman, Ariz., also survive Jerry. A son, Gregory Holubik; three brothers, Joe, Tony, Martin Holubik; and one sister, Lillian Brock have preceded Jerry in death.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Freeland. The Rev. Fr. Robert Deland will officiate, with a private entombment to follow. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E Washington St., Freeland, today from 2-8 p.m., and at church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Agnes Catholic Church, Freeland, St. Jude's Hospital or the Disabled Veterans of America.
