JoAnn L. Balwinski left us peacefully to be with her heavenly father on Nov. 12, 2013. JoAnn is the daughter of Louise (Karsh) and Fred Schrinel, born March 18, 1941, in Bay City. She married Leon Balwinski on Sept. 14, 1963, recently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

JoAnn was a beautiful person who enjoyed spending her time with other people. She always had a story to share with her family and friends. She most loved camping in Michigan, especially the Gladwin City Park. She was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament's Ladies' organization and enjoyed attending events at the North Midland Family Center. In her spare time, she liked to knit blankets for her family and put puzzles together.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Leon Balwinski; her daughters and their families, Bob and Barb Morse, Sue Wark, Tina and Dennis Russell and Vicki and Randy Chomistek. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin, Brittanie, Katelynne, Randi Sue, George, Joshua, Tabitha, Jackie, Dennis, Eden, Elizabeth and Jessica; and her great-grandchildren, Donythyn, Remyngton and Taygen and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Tom (Marilyn) Schrinel of Mount Clemens. JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Louise Schrinel; her brother, Charles Schrinel; her in-laws, Stan and Pauline Balwinski; her sister-in-law, Betty Fales; and grandson, Zachariah Chomistek.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Swede and Ashman Rds., Midland. The Rev. Fr. Kevin Makysm will officiate, with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery (Fisherville). JoAnn's family will receive friends at the Auburn Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. today from 5-8 p.m. On Thursday morning, JoAnn will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until time of liturgy. A vigil service for JoAnn will take place 7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
