Julia B. (Brzezinski) Kolevar, 96, of Midland, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, in Johnson City, Tenn. Julia was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Detroit, to the late Julian and Francis Brzezinski. She was married to George Kolevar who preceded her in death in 1979.

Julia was an active member of the parishes she belonged to, Holy Name in Detroit and Blessed Sacrament in Midland. She devoted her life to her family, her church and her friends and was especially proud to be a life-long member of the Daughters of Isabella. Julia enjoyed traveling, dancing and playing cards; she was especially known for her expertise in playing Pinochle, playing well into her 90s. Julia became an avid baseball fan and could be found in her apartment at Riverside rooting for her team, the Detroit Tigers. She was so pleased on her 90th birthday to receive an autographed Tiger baseball and a personal letter from the manager of the team. Julia was an outstanding cook, seamstress and homemaker. She will be especially remembered for the love and attention she gave to children, especially her own beloved granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Julia is survived by her children, Barbara Sucher of Johnson City, Tenn. and James Kolevar, and wife Cindy of Loudon, Tenn.; granddaughters, Julie (Mason Hecker) of Falls Church, Va., Anne (Thomas Kucik) of Honolulu, Hawaii; Lisa (Phil Freels) of Knoxville, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Bailey and Kole Fisk, Jack, Drew and Madeline Hecker and Thomas Kucik. Julia is also survived by her brother, Richard Burns of Grosse Pointe. Her brothers, Eugene and Edward preceded her in death. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, including Dana Saxton, with whom she had a very special relationship.
The family will greet friends at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home in Midland, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, from 6-8:00 p.m. Vigil will begin at 7 p.m., with Father Peter Gaspeny officiating. A Mass of Celebration for Julia will be said on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m., from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Midland. Burial Services will follow at 2 p.m. in New Calvary Cemetery.
