James N. Gowing, 75, of Midland, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Saginaw, to the late James S. and Thelma M. (VanSteinburg) Gowing. He married Judy Taylor in Midland on Sept. 24, 1960.
James worked for General Motors
as a benefits rep for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. James was a member of the Floyd Church of God. James enjoyed softball, singing, the Tigers and the Loons. He loved going to deer camp and he treasured time with his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Vickie Smith, Debra (Ken) Howden, Doug (Tammy) Gowing, Cindy (Philip) Acker, Lisa (Ty) Kinne, Jody Gowing and Michael (Michelle) Gowing. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
James was preceded in death by his sister Eileen Gowing; and brother Keith Gowing.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Floyd Church of God, with Pastor Bill Caroffino officiating. Visitation for James will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Homer Township Cemetery.
