Duwayne F. Stockwell, 90, of Houghton Lake, died unexpectedly, Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014, at his daughter's home in Midland. He was born May 21, 1923 in Alma, son of the late Elmer and Mae (Wisner) Stockwell. He was a graduate of Alma High School.
He served his country with the U.S. Army
with CO-M, 3rd. Battalion, 135 Regiment, Red Bull 34th Division.
On May 13, 1946 he married the former Zillah Wierman in Saginaw. She preceded him in death Jan. 16, 1991.
Mr. Stockwell was employed as a millwright at the G. M. Foundry in Saginaw, retiring after twenty-five years of service. Duwayne was one of the original founders and served as a volunteer firefighter
with the Thomas Township Fire Department. He enjoyed electronics and was a former member of the American Legion Post # 443 in Sanford.
Surviving are his daughters, Jacqueline Morse of Midland and Shelby Stockwell of Zephyrhills, Fla.; his daughter-in-law, Janet Burnell of Midland; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, "Peeko."
In addition to his parents and wife Zillah, Duwayne was preceded in death by his son, Russell Burnell; his two brothers, Aubrey Stockwell and Donald Stockwell; and his one sister, Irene Nevens.
Funeral services for Duwayne will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler St. in Midland, with full military honors to be presented by the Midland Area Veterans
and the Department of the U.S. Army.
The Rev. Dr. J.D. Landis of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Private burial will take place Monday in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Saginaw.
Mr. Stockwell's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 4-7 p.m., and on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
