Doris W. Turnbull, 95, of Midland and formerly of Alpena, went to be with her Lord and Savior April 24, 2014. The daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret (Zenger) Huggler was born Sept. 14, 1918 in Alpena. On Aug. 23, 1941, she married her high school sweetheart, Omer S. Turnbull in Detroit.

In her younger years she worked for the U.S. Air Force in Detroit and later at the Alpena News as their Women's Editor. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a member of the Huron Shores Fellowship Church in Alpena, and of the Calvary Baptist Church in Midland. She had a love for decorating (with her favorite color being blue), baking and gardening, having a rose garden the length of her backyard. She will be remembered as being a caring, loving and compassionate lady, who loved spending time with family, friends and best friend, her daughter Mary.

She resided in Alpena for over 50 years before moving to Midland to be near family.

She is survived by her son, Douglas (Mary) Turnbull of Tennessee; and daughter, Mary (Matthew) Gilmet of Midland; six grandchildren, Steven (Gretchen) Rea of Alpena, James, Andrew, David, Douglas and Melodie Turnbull of Tennessee; nine great-grandchildren, eight in Tennessee and Jack Rea of Alpena; her sister-in-law, Marge Huggler of Genesee; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years in 2007; seven sisters; and four brothers.

The family would like to extend a special "Thanks to All" for the wonderful staff at MidMichigan Stratford Village. A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors.
