Dennis G. Hays, 76, of Midland, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014, at MidMichigan Center-Gratiot in Alma. He was born May 30, 1937, in Midland, the son of Deuel and Mildred (Sickner) Hays. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Janice Jacobs at the Midland First United Methodist Church.

Denny loved camping with his family, as well as hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons. Denny was a building contractor who built or remodeled over 400 homes in the Tri-City area. In addition, he built several churches including the Living Word Church, where he had served as a deacon during his 33 years of membership.

Denny received Jesus as Lord of his life in January, 1976. His church and family meant everything to him.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Vicki Jo (Byron "Bob") Jines; son, Michael Dennis (Cindy) Hays; daughter, Julie Hays, all of Midland; grandchildren, Bobbi Jo (Ben) Histed, Joshua (Rachel) Jines, Kristin (Scott) Dondineau, Ben (Stephanie) Hays, Amanda (Dan) Hickerson, Mike (Hannah) Hays, Corrin Hays, Jim Hays; great-grandchildren, Jordan Inman, Chase Nivison, Jenna Histed, Trenten Jines, Trace Histed, Kadance Nadolny, Gage Nadolny, Lucas Hickerson, Wesley Hays, Easton Hays; siblings, Mildred (John) White, Patricia (Ralph) Morris, F. Douglas (Detta) Hays, Donald (Barb) Hays, Janie (Terry) Stephens and Gwen (Dan) Wamhoff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeanie Hays; and his brother, Deuel Hays Jr.

Funeral services will take place 11 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Living Word Church, 2010 Stark Road, with Dr. Mark T. Barclay officiating. Denny's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m., and at the church on Friday, from 10 a.m. until time of services.
