Velva O. (Long) Willemin, 95, of Midland, passed away May, 12 2014, at Bickford Cottage. She was born Sept. 21, 1918 in Benton Harbor, Mich.

Velva lived in Benton Harbor, Detroit, Long Beach and Albuquerque before she moved to Ann Arbor to work as a court reporter. After she moved to Midland, Velva served as a docent at the Midland Center for the Arts and was an active member at the First United Methodist Church.

She was a lively conversationalist and an avid reader, with an interest in world events, politics and history. She traveled to many countries throughout the world. Curious about the natural world, Velva loved gardening and observing the seasons on Lake Michigan. She was appreciated for her loyal friendship, her intelligence and her gracious manner.

Velva was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ben Willemin; infant sons, Robert Ernest and Robert Mark; and brother, Milo Doyle Long.

She is survived by her children, Diane and David (Julianne); grandchildren, Shelley, Adam, Leah and Peter; sister-in-law Bette Ross; and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alden B. Dow Museum - Midland Center for the Arts, the Chippewa Nature Center or First United Methodist Church. The family will hold a private memorial service.

The family thanks MMRMC, fourth floor nurses, staff, doctors and the staff at Bickford Cottage for lovingly caring for Velva.
