Tom Bouwhuis, 80, went to be with the Lord June 8, 2014 at the King's Daughters Home in Midland. He was born Feb. 1, 1934 in Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard, Kenneth and Jim; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Shirley and June.
He married Vera Ann Walters June 6, 1959 in Suttons Bay.
Tom is survived by Vera; son, Tom (Colette) Bouwhuis; daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Cahill, Michelle (Fred) Corrion, Jean (Paul) Jablonski, Mary (Paul) Fraley. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Dick (Bonnie), Bob (Jackie), Jerry (Arlene); and sister-in-law, Pat; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Tom served his country for over two years with the U.S. Navy
. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan Tech, as well as a Masters in Business at Central Michigan. Tom's career was spent as a Project Engineer with The Dow Chemical Co. He was also a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.
Tom liked hunting, playing cards and watching Michigan sports. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with his friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events. We will all miss his sense of humor.
A memorial liturgy will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Parish at 11 a.m., with Father Kevin Maksym officiating. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at the New Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
