Kay Ann Ryzenga, 60, of Bay City and formerly of Grand Rapids, died Tuesday afternoon, July 1, 2014 at the McLaren Bay Region Hospital in Bay City. She was born Dec. 29, 1953 in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of Elizabeth (Myshock) Ryzenga and the late Raymond B. Ryzenga.
Kay graduated from H.H. Dow High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Michigan University. She was employed with the State of Michigan with the Liquor Control Commission, retiring in 2013 and was an active member of the Michigan State Employees Association.
Kay adopted several children through the Christian Children's Fund, supported Girl Scouts of America and St. Vincent De Paul of Bay City.
Surviving in addition to her mother, Elizabeth, are her siblings, Nancy (David) Miller of Bay City, Susan (Earl) Dutton of South Boardman, Mary Lou (Chris) Burkel of Wixom, Julie Ryzenga (Bud Hoomaian) of Cheboygan, Jon (Katie) Ryzenga of Gahanna, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
In addition to her father Ray, her spouse, David Cherry, preceded her death.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, July 5, 2014 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church. Private inurnment will take place in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Kay's family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Vincent De Paul of Bay City.
