George R. Hodge, 85, of Midland, died Friday evening, July 25, 2014 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center. He was born Feb. 6, 1929 in Rochester, son of the late Jack and May (Raymond) Hodge.
George married the former Charlene J. Coleman Aug. 17, 1979. She preceded him in death Sept. 23, 2004.
George was a district manager for Western and Southern Insurance and retired from there. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, traveling in Michigan, bird watching and greatly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by daughters, Teresa Fries of Midland, Vicki (John) Berry of Freeland and Tammy Kerr of Grand Rapids; sons, Ron (Jan) Hodge of Florida and Art (Sherry) Hodge of Midland. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Michele (Aaron) Mathey, Amber (Thomas) VanPelt, Madelyn Schroeder, Ryan Kerr, Scott, Kim, Heidi, Heather, Justin and Nicholas; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife and first wife Arlene Geror, George was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicky Gratopp in 1999; one brother, Earl Hodge; two sisters, Lucille Roses and Florabelle Federow; one great-grandson, Maxwell Kerr; and one granddaughter, April Starr.
Funeral Services for George will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Pastor Mark Dickerson will officiate, with burial in Poseyville Cemetery. George's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 12 noon until time of service.
