R. James "Jim" Rich, 67, of Midland, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born March 14, 1946 in Midland, son of the late Robert and Betty (Bickle) Rich. Jim was a graduate of St. Louis High School and attended Delta College.
He served his country with U.S. Army
during the Vietnam War
On July 30, 1987 he married Janet Spaulding in Midland. Jim was employed for many years as a Tradesman with the Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 2001.
He served as a Midland County Commissioner for several years, was a member of the Poseyville United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Post #443 in Sanford. His favorite enjoyment was fishing.
Surviving besides his wife Janet are his children and their spouses, Michael Rich of Jacksonville, Fla., Michelle Walter of Farwell, Kara and Mike Rohn of Vassar, Tom and Ashley Short of Freeland, and Jeff and Mary Short of West Branch; grandchildren, Ashlin Rich, Logan Rich, Marissa Rich, Jacob Walter, Landry Short, Macey Rohn, Chase Rohn, Ava Rohn, Shelby Short and Colton Short; and his great-grandson, Michael Rich. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Rich and his wife Kathy of Japan, and David Rich and his wife Connie of St. Louis. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Hill.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler St. Midland. The Rev. Mike Luce will officiate, with burial to follow in the Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Military graveside honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and Midland Area Veterans. Jim's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, from 3-7 p.m., and on Monday, from 10 a.m. until services.
