Elizabeth Owens "Libby" Downing

Elizabeth "Libby" Owens Downing, the wife of Frank Keiser Downing, passed away Thursday, Aug 15, 2013, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Lexington to the late Basil Duke and Sue Humphreys Owens. She graduated from Logan High School, Logan, WV; Sullins College, Bristol, VA; and attended the University of Kentucky. In addition to her husband of over 60 years, she is survived by her children, Frank Keiser "Kye" (Jill) Downing, Jr, Sue Downing Wingate and Margaret Downing (Brian) Forsee. Also seven grandchildren, Samuel Wingate, Alexander Wingate, Patrick Wingate, Morgan Forsee, Preston Forsee, Frank "Tre" Downing III, Mary Carter Elizabeth Downing; one brother, Basil Duke Owens Jr. of Shelbyville; one nephew, David (Dixie) Owens, Jasper, Ala.; two great-nieces and one great-nephew. She had always been active in the lives of her family and in community programs in Owenton over 30 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, DAR, Womens Club, Homemakers and was state chairperson of the Women in Rural Electric Kentucky. She was a University of Kentucky Fellow and a member of the Scovill Society of the College of Agriculture. The family received friends Friday, Aug. 16 at the First Christian Church in Owenton and Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Milward Funeral Home (Broadway) in Lexington. The funeral services followed the visitation in Lexington. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Christian Church in Owenton.
