Dorothy Stewart, 83, of Owenton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Owenton Manor. Born Jan. 30, 1930 in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Mattie Poe Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her infant sister. She was a 1947 graduate of New Liberty High School and a 1951 graduate of Georgetown College. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church at Jonesville, where she played the organ for 68 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority; Owen County and Northern Kentucky Retired Teachers Association; Owen County Historical Society and a lifetime member of Georgetown College Women's Club. She taught school for more than 30 years mostly in Kenton County. She is survived by 14 cousins including Bro. Jesse Bourne, Mary Ellen Skirvin, Edith Lewis and Bernie Poe. The family received friends at the Main Street location of McDonald & New Funeral Homes Tuesday, Aug. 27. 2013, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Owenton Cemetery with Bro. Gene Hill presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the Georgetown College.
