Florella 'Flo' Tanner Ransdell, 92, of Owenton, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center from a stroke. Born June 27, 1921 in Union, she was the daughter of the late Claud and Nannie Bristow Tanner and the widow of John L. Ransdell Sr. She was also preceded in death by her sister Marion Lucas and her infant sister Claudia. Flo was a successful business woman. She and her husband owned and operated Ranco Oil Company in Miami, Fla. for 20 years. In the late 90s, Flo moved back to the Ransdell Family Farm in Sweet Owen. In her spare time, Flo enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. Flo was well known for her pretzel salad and coleslaw. She was a member of the Sweet Owen Homemakers and attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Flo was a positive, loving woman who was adored by everyone. Survivors include her son, John L. (Marcia) Ransdell Jr.; her daughter, Nita (Rex) Benson. both of Owenton; her sister, Alma Brooks of Florence; six grandchildren, John L. Ransdell, III, Brian Ransdell, Lindsay Ransdell Wynn, Terri Benson Mears, Rex Ransdell Benson and Rebecca McDaniel. Nineteen great-grandchildren also survive as well as an expected great-great granddaughter. The visitation and funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 18 at the Seminary Street location of McDonald & New Funeral Homes. The Bro. David 'Milkweed' Wotier presided. Burial was in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
