George Lee Cooke, 78, a resident of Owen County, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at his home. He was the son of the late Howard and Helen Cooke. George was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Elliston; one sister, Patsy Lou Cooke and two brothers, Harold and Bobby Cooke. George was a retired employee of the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort and a farmer. He also served his country in the United States Army. George is survived by his wife, Evelyn Cooke; two sons, Mike Elliston (Sue Ann) and Jeff Elliston (Patricia); one daughter, Laketa Ritchie (Buddy); one daughter-in-law, Janice Elliston and one brother, Johnny Cooke (Sandra). Also surviving are grandchildren, Joshua 'JT' Riddle, Jeffrey Elliston (Carrie), Phillip Elliston (Morgan P.), Andrew Elliston (Jessica), Kayla Dempsey (Jeremy), Kristen Hedger (Nathan), Brittany Elliston, Morgan T. Elliston and Lakenzie Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Abigayle Dempsey, Isabella Hedger, Quinn Elliston and Baby Elliston. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 25, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at the Main Street location of McDonald & New Funeral Homes. The funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Bro. John Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Monterey Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeffrey, Phillip, Andrew, J.T., Jeremy and Nathan. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lakenzie, Kayla, Carrie, Brittany, Morgan T., Morgan P., Jessica, Kristen, Quinn, Isabella and Abigayle. Donations may be made to the , 1500 College Way, Lexington, Ky. 40502. McDonald & New Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
