Gregory Paul Seigel, 65, of Owen County, passed away Dec. 8, 2012 at Saint Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood. Born March 28, 1947 in Cincinnati, he was the son of Miriam Kornau Seigel and the late Frederick Alois Seigel.Ê He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rebekka Beer Seigel, and his two children, Nellie Rachel Seigel of Chicago and Max Otto Frederick Seigel of New York City.Ê He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Seigel and Frederick Alois Seigel III of Graettinger, Iowa; and his sister, Deborah Seigel of Nederland, Colo. Greg began making stoneware pottery at his Owen County residence in 1974.Ê His whimsical and unorthodox approach to design brought him many fans and collectors of works created in either his gas fired or wood fired kilns.Ê He worked as an artist-in-residence in schools across Kentucky leading students to create tile murals that still grace the walls of many schools, including those of Owen County. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
