Wilma Johnson Early, 82, of Bagdad, Ky., passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Masonic Home Shelbyville.
Born in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Ruth Stephens Johnson and the widow of Robert Gray Early. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Hunter of Danville and her grandson, Joshua David Early.
A member of the Bagdad Baptist Church, she was a former member of the W.M.U. and a former Sunday school teacher and leader in vacation Bible school. She began her working career as an employee of IBM in Lexington. She later worked briefly as an employee of Republic Bank. From 1972 until 1994, she provided childcare in her home for many children in the community. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Bagdad Baptist Church Daycare program and was one of the first daycare employees, working there from 1994-2002. Throughout the years, as a day care provider, Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, neighbor and friend, she touched the lives of several generations of children and their families with a positive Christian influence. She was also a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her survivors include her children, Dana Early Emily of Smithfield, Ky., Robert Allen Early and David E. Early, both of Shelbyville, Paulesa Early Davis and her husband, John, of Greenville and John H. Early and his wife, Janell, also of Shelbyville; her brother-in-law, Roe Early and his wife, Mary Ann, of Graefenburg, Ky.; her grandchildren, Jill Early of New Bern, N.C., Sarah Long of Cropper, Ky., Allen Early of Shelbyville, Brittany Daugherty of Park City, Ky., Justin Davis of Russellville, Ky. and Evan Early, Grant Early, and Lauren Early, all of Shelbyville and her seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville.
The funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Rev. Jesse Baxter officiating. Interment was in the Bagdad Cemetery, Bagdad, Ky.
