News Death Notice
SHERMAN, William Sr. Early Sunday morning, September 30, 2012, William Sherman, Sr. peacefully departed this walk of life and confidently began the next phase of God's plan for his spirit. He was born April 10, 1928, in Summer Lee, West Virginia, the fifth child of seven children from the union of Nathaniel Sherman, Sr., and Ena Wright Sherman. He arrived in Hamilton, Ohio with his parents and siblings as a young child. He was educated in the Hamilton public schools and was an excellent student. He graduated from Hamilton High with the class of 1945. Shortly thereafter he met the love of his life, Marian Celestine Perrin. They were joined in holy matrimony on May 22, 1948. Their union was blessed with eight children. Upon graduating from high school he began working at the Mosler Safe Company where he became the first African American to be promoted to a supervisory position and eventually became the Head of Shipping and Receiving for one of Mosler's facilities shipping safes worldwide. He retired from Mosler in 1992 after 46 years of service. His was a life dedicated to bringing people to salvation through Jesus Christ. In 1963 he was ordained as a Deacon of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for decades until he was named Deacon Emeritus in 2010. He served as the Church Financial Secretary for 30 years, while also serving as the Superintendant of the Sunday School program. He sang in the Gospel Chorus, the Men's Chorus and the Choral Ensemble for over 50 years. His deep bass voice would add color and tone to the choir's harmonious melodies and his silk-like, baritone solos would often close the services with shouts of praise and tears of joy from the congregation. However, he will undoubtedly be remembered most for his clear, concise and insightful teaching of biblical scriptures. For ten years he taught a Saturday morning bible study class for young adults. His teachings are often credited with bringing people to Christ, saving marriages, healing families, and enhancing careers through understanding of the scriptures. Mr. Sherman is survived by: four daughters; Jacquelyn B. Sherman, Angela C. Gordon, Robin J. Lasley, and Jean Davis Curry all of Cincinnati, Ohio; four sons; Randal. P. Sherman, Kent C. Sherman of Cincinnati; Terrence L. (Victoria) Sherman, of Chicago, Illinois and William A. (Venice) Sherman, II of Cincinnati; two sisters, Lucille Jones of Forest Park, Ohio and Lena Roberts of Louisville, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marian C. Sherman; his son Wendell P. Sherman; two sisters Anna Buckner and Ida Sherman; and his brothers Noah Sherman and Nathaniel Sherman, Jr. Services will be held Tuesday October 9, 2012 at 12pm until hour of funeral at 1pm at the Pilgrim Baptist Church 714 S Fourth St. Arrangements entrusted to Green, Hall & Jordan Memorial Chapel

To the family of Deacon William Serman, we extend our condolences in the passing of the man of God. We worshipped at the Pilgrim Baptist Church and were taught by Dea. Sherman when we lived in Hamilton. His knowledge of the word was outstanding. We will always remember him and cherish the time we had with him on this side of heaven.

Tuesday started out a cold day, but when the chiming hour came to say farewell to a man of God, the sun shined as did the Father when He welcomed your father home. I worked with Mr. Sherman at Mosler for 15 years he was truly a man of dignity, respect came to him because he was a man of the faith. I'm truly sorry for your loss and your hearts will be heavy but find peace in knowing your father is with His Father receiving his crown for a life well lived that honored God in everything he done. Thank you for sharing your father with me and the rest of the community.

A good friend of my family for many years, beloved by my late parents Rosa & Milton Flowers, a classmate of my late brother Milton Jr., Deacon Sherman will be missed by us and all those who knew him. A Christian to the core! Like all who heard him sing, I enjoyed hearing him. There was authenticity in his teaching, music and his life. Heaven has a new resident, and while I am sad, I rejoice for William. On behalf of the Flowers families, we offer our sympathies and love to the Sherman Family.

I will always remember Mr Sherman with fondness. Our family and my grandmother, Mrs Londer Hill affectionately referred to Mr Sherman as her other son. He was always so kind to me and gifted me several times over the years with his famous sweet potato pie! I spoke with his daugther, my dear friend Robin recently. She told me how proud she was to be his daughter. Can you imagine how proud God is! He was a rarity among men in this world today! Robin and family you were blessed to have such a great father. My thoughts, prayers and love to each one of you.

"Sherman Family"
May you know we send our commiseration and prayers to you. Mr. Sherman just had that spectacular voice that when he spoke you were destined to be enlighted by his words. We were neighbors and I worked with him for many years at Mosler Safe Company and what an positive influence he had on myself and others. Mr. Sherman will surely be missed.
Love,
Eugene & Fannie Singletary & Family
When our "FATHER" in heaven says time to come home to eternity, then it's time! We have been so grateful to have known a man of "GOD" on this earth.
May you continue to be blessed and remember "ALL" the memories that you have been allowed to be a part.

My condolence's to the Sherman Family. Mr. Sherman was as fine and generous a man as I have ever met. His "humility" and "passion" for the "Lord" was contagious and uplifting, a "truly remarkable man". He will be missed. He has left a very strong nucleus of family and friends. His "spirit" will continue to "shine". God Bless you Jackie and all of your family and friends. Leon Sneed

Bill Sherman and I worked together at St. Clair Avenue Baptist Church for ten years. He was a brother in Christ, a spiritual friend who blessed me in many ways as we shared our thoughts and experiences. Bill came to sing in our evening services many times, blessing our congregation and stirring my heart before the sermon. I have missed our times to fellowship the past eleven years. I know Bill is singing in glory now.
