News Death Notice

WARD, Melva Kathryn [Jewell] age 73 passed away January 28 at Liberty Nursing Center of Oxford. She was a resident of Camden, OH prior to entering the nursing home where she lived for the last 28 years. Melva was born on November 17, 1940 to Paul M. and Myrtle C. (Gault) Jewell. She attended Talawanda High School. Melva worked at The Oxford House, Kroger on the west side of Hamilton, and Dayton Flexible/Baxter in Eaton, OH. She was on the Resident Council at Liberty Nursing Center and a 50 year member of the Pythian Sisters. She was a member of Darrtown United Methodist Church and attended Camden United Methodist Church in which she was a choir member and Sunday school teacher. Melva enjoyed country/gospel music, playing cards, and visiting with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed being a grandma. Melva was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Charles R. Ward, and her brothers; Paul L. "Pete" Jewell and George K. Jewell. Melva is survived by her children: Kenneth R. (Jennifer) Ward of Dayton, Daniel S. Ward of Loveland, Kathryn D. (Timothy) Gaiser of Miamisburg, grandchildren; Christopher R. (Amanda) Ward, Nathaniel R. (Mary) Ward, Shelby K. (Johnathon) Ashcraft, Clayton D. Gaiser, great grandchildren; Cooper R. Ward, Tate A. Ward, Brenan H. Ward, sisters; JoAnn (William) Coombs and Donna M. (Shawn) Gallagher. She also leaves many family members and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, February 3, 2014, 6-8pm at Ogle & Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike, Oxford. Funeral Service will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 4 at 11 am. Melva will be laid to rest in the Oxford Cemetery.
