Kathy Renee (Tholen) MYERS

Obituary Condolences

News Death Notice

MYERS, Kathy Renee (nee Tholen) age 37, of Milford Twp., passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014, at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was comforted with love and hugs while surrounded by family members. She was born in Cincinnati on November 23, 1976 to Herman and Diana Tholen. She attended elementary school at Assumption School in Mt. Healthy. She attended McAuley High School and transferred to Talawanda High School where she became a member of the 1995 graduating class. She was an avid softball player during her adolescent and teen years and traveled across the country accumulating numerous accolades in the process. She fell in love with David Myers who also graduated from Talawanda and married him at St. Peter in Chains Roman Catholic Church in Hamilton on April 17, 1999. They have two children together, Matthew (13) and Jessica (11). Kathy was employed as a 911 dispatcher for the city of Hamilton before her illness. She was diagnosed with cancer in Sept. 2009 and was given 3-6 months to live. She had this incredible strength and desire to defy the odds. Kathy set what seemed like an insurmountable goal for herself, she wanted to see Matthew play baseball his 12 year old year. She fought valiantly for 3 years and was not only able to see him play ball this past summer as a 12 yr. old, she saw him play in the regionals of the Little League World Series. Kathy brought a smile to everyone she met. She touched many lives and changed many hearts throughout her fight. She would like to extend her deepest thanks to all who prayed for her and her family. One of her greatest concerns was that she would not have the opportunity to express her gratitude to each and every one of you. The family would like to thank all the caregivers that aided in her treatment, especially Dr. W. Edward Richards of UC and Dr. Rod Flynn of The Philadelphia Cancer Treatment Centers of America. You gave us 3 extra years with our beloved Kathy, and we want you to know how truly grateful we are. Kathy is survived by her husband David, children Matthew and Jessica, step-daughter Cody, both her parents Herman and Diana Tholen, sisters Cyndi (Chad) Fritsch, Janey (Chris) Lightfield, and Tina (Jeff) Reiff, nieces and nephews, Michael, Billy, Hailey, Timmy, Nick, Marty, Cadie, Victoria, Sarah, Andrew, Hannah and Madison, her aunt, Kathy Bath, her uncle, Karl Tholen, cousins, Lynne Harris, Doug Bath and Tim Bath, and best friend Debbie Brinkman-Grubbs. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Conrad and Mary Tholen and, Bill and Mamie Meister. Services will be held at Weigel Funeral, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio with burial in Darrtown Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Monday, February 17th from 5-8 pm and funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 18th at 10:00 am. Donations may be made in Kathy's name in lieu of flowers to the Cancer Research Institutes of America or to the St. Jude's Cancer Research Institute. Online condolences are available at
