EICHHOLD, Louis E. "Bud" age 92 of Hamilton died Friday, October 12, 2012, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 30, 1919, the son of Eugene and Katherine (Kiffmeyer) Eichhold. He graduated from Purcell High School in 1937, and the University of Cincinnati in 1942, with a degree in Business Administration. Bud served for four years with the 348th Air Service Group of the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a communication officer in the Caribbean and South Pacific. He continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves for 16 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. On January 30, 1948, he married Marie A. Suedkamp also of Hamilton. Mr. Eichhold was Co-Owner and Operator of the Hamilton Taxi and Baggage Company for 36 years, retiring in 1982. A member of St. Peter in Chains Church, he was also a Rotarian for 13 years. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marie; three daughters, Diane (Terry) Torbeck of Centerville, OH, Janet Handahl of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Marilyn (Paul) Knapp of Indianapolis, IN; nine grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Skinner, Michelle (Scott) Eckhart, Andrew (Andrea) Torbeck, Seth (Kim) Handahl, Zachary (Hilary) Handahl, Lukas Handahl, Carley Knapp, Jenna Knapp, and Ben Knapp; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, John "Jake" and Richard "Dick" Eichhold; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members who were so dear to Bud. He was preceded in death by s son-in-law, Allan Handahl; a brother, Joseph "Joe" Eichhold. Bud will be remembered for his zest for life, dedication to family, love of travel and adventure and delight in the little pleasures of everyday living. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Leonard's Assisted Living in Centerville, Ohio for giving Bud such loving care. Prayers will be offered at 9:30 am Thursday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am Thursday in St. Peter in Chains Church. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the or to Hospice of Dayton.
