WIMMERS, Jr. Maurice E. "Wimpy" age 92 of Hamilton died Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Berkeley Square Retirement Community. He was born in Van Wert, Ohio on October 8, 1921, the son of Maurice L. and Marguerite (Barroni) Wimmers Sr., and was a 1939 graduate of Hamilton High School. Mr. Wimmers served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII as part of the 1st Marine Corp Division, from November 1941 until November 1945. He was a heavy machine gun crewman and served honorably in the South Pacific Theater at Peleliu, Palau, Guadalcanal, and the British Solomon Islands. On September 1, 1947, in St. Peter in Chains Church he married Dorothy A. Herbers. He worked for Fisher Body General Motors Division for 34 years retiring in 1983. Maurice was a lifetime member of St. Peter in Chains Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; eight children, Nancy (James) Addler, Rosemary (Bill) Huffman, Steven (Elizabeth Barron) Wimmers, Rebecca Kirkpatrick, Noel (Rodney) Lintner, John (Cynthia) Wimmers, Greg (Deidre) Wimmers, and Amy (David) Schiavone; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and two on the way; one great-great grandchild; a step-brother, Richard Burtoft; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Stephanie Adelspurger for all her special love and care given to her Grandpa. Special thanks to the staff at Berkley Square. Prayers will be offered at 9:30am Tuesday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am Tuesday in St. Peter in Chains Church 451 Ridgelawn Ave. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00pm Monday in the funeral home.
