News Death Notice

ALVES, Stanley Powell 82, of Oxford, died Thursday, October 11 at his home. He was a retired engineer, graduate of the University of Kentucky, and was employed by Square D Company for 31 years. He had served in the U. S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii for four years. He traveled, worked in Australia, enjoyed college basketball, woodworking, fishing, gardening, and leather work. Stanley will be remembered for his marvelous sense of humor and was fondly remembered as "Pap", "Stan the Man", "The Great One" and will be dearly missed. His favorite quote was "You ain't no good, but you're alright". Born June 3, 1930 in Winchester, KY, he was a son of the late Haywood and Mildred Fraley Alves, and was raised in Versailles, KY. He is survived by two daughters Pamela S. Holt (Donald Hamm) of Roanoke, VA, Patterson Lee Wells (Randy) of Hamilton, four grandchildren, Ashley and Jill Wells, James Holt, Raja Quinn, ten great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patti Gordon, three brothers, Haywood, William, and Samuel Alves. Funeral services were 1 pm, Tuesday, October 16 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Versailles, KY with Fr. Philip Linder officiating. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery (KY).
