HAGERSTOWN, Ind. - Anton Gerhard "Gary" "Doc" Payne Sr., 52, of Hagerstown, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.
He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., on March 13, 1959, the son of Hugh D. and Alice Charlene (Miller) Payne. He lived most of his life in the Hagerstown area.
Gary was an ordained Baptist minister, a member of Faith United Baptist Church and the founder of "World Dent by Doc Payne'. He loved spending time with family, running and drag racing.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda (Denney) Payne; two sons, Anton G. Payne II (Nathalia) and Gary Michael Payne (Andrea); four grandchildren, Jhade, Javin, Rizael and Zaylee; three brothers, Hugh Payne, Leonard Payne and Brad Payne; a sister, Tina Smith; his father and mother-in-law, Eldon and Martha Denney; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, in Faith United Baptist Church. Pastor Eldon Denney, Anton Payne II and Michael Payne will officiate. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday in Culberson Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be made to Faith United Baptist Church, 5197 N. Brick Church Road, Hagerstown, IN 47346.
