BAUM, Walter Matthias* - Delray Beach
BAUM, Walter Matthias Walter Matthias Baum passed away July 21, 2016 after a sudden illness. Walter was born on April 14, 1934 in Cologne Germany. In 1957 he left Germany to go to Canada where he worked at the Banff Springs Hotel. From there he went to Bermuda and met and married his first wife Gerda in a fairytale wedding. They moved to Nassau where Walter filmed several dive scenes with Lloyd Bridges for the show "Seahunt". Walter immigrated to the US in 1961 and had a son, Walter Helmut. Walter had a magnetic personality which helped him land a job as nightclub manager at the famous Shoreham Hotel Blue Room in Washington DC. He worked with many celebrities and later became road manager for Jack Jones. Walter was one time voted best dressed man in Washington. In 1968 Walter became the manager of the Blue Room at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. He went on to become the general manager of the Montelion Hotel and left with a key to the city. For the last 15 years Walter has lived in Palm Beach with his fiancée Marguerite Rosner. Together they enjoyed the many functions of the Palm Beach Symphony, the Intercontinental Club and various other organizations. Walter and Marguerite made a dynamic duo and had many friends. Walter was extremely active and was an avid tennis, golf and poker player. He also loved his cars. Perhaps his greatest joy was his granddaughter Juliet Ashton Baum, daughter of his son Walter H. and Jill E. Baum who reside in Gulf Stream. Walter will be greatly missed by his family and many friends around the world. Services private. Please visit www.LorneandSons.com to sign the online guestbook and share condolences.
