Family-Placed Obituary

FREDERICK F. McCARTHY Frederick F. McCarthy, 91, of Delray Beach passed away on October 26, 2009. Mr. McCarthy was a renowned cartoonist and creator of Brother Juniper cartoon strip. St. Bonaventure University (his alma mater) commissioned him to create portraits of its 23 presidents in commemoration of its sesquicentennial year. "Brother Juniper" is the only religious comic ever syndicated in daily newspapers internationally. Some 185 newspapers, including those from South America, Italy and Spain carried the cartoon series from 1958 to 1989. It reached 15 million newspaper readers worldwide. He was a 71 year member of the Secular Franciscan Order and in Florida a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Secular Franciscan Order. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lilly. Friends may call on Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 15700 South Military Trail, Delray Beach with a 10:15 AM rosary service followed by an 11 AM funeral mass.
