GENTILE, Ellen M. "Ellie"

Ellen M. Gentile "Ellie", of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Reading, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the age of 85. Born in Cambridge, MA October 12, 1928 she was predeceased by her husband, Bruno Gentile and daughter, Donna Marie Costa-Witham. She is survived by her son, Joseph Costa, Jr. of Jupiter and five grandchildren, Joseph P. Costa of Orlando, FL, Justine E. Costa of Hypoluxo, FL, James A. Costa, USMC, Camp Lejeune, NC, Steven Witham of Somerville, MA and Erin Witham-Spaulding of Lexington, KY and three great-grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, FL. After moving to Delray Beach in 1998, she became actively involved in the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post 4141, Delray Beach, FL where she volunteered and worked as Canteen Manager until disabled by Parkinson's disease in 2012. Ellie toiled tirelessly supporting and volunteering for Veterans causes with the VFW, MOCA and American Legion organizations. She was respected, loved and will be profoundly missed by all that knew and were associated her. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 24 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10935 S. Military Trail, Boynton Beach, FL 33436, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life reception at VFW Post 4141, 802 SE 5th Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33483, (561) 276-9529. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ellie's name to Scripps Research Institute, Parkinson's Research Dept.130 Scripps Way, Jupiter, FL 33458 or http://www.scripps.edu/philanthropy/landing/sem/2012/parkinsons.
